It’s pretty much impossible to forget the name Jason Derulo. After all, the singer has been including his name in every single one of his tracks since back in 2009. This means that for the last 14 years, our ears have been hearing the angelic “Jason Derulo” at the beginning of some huge pop hits. But have you ever wondered why exactly he does it?
Jason Derulo Almost Gave Up on His Trademark
Whether you find it iconic or too repetitive, you can’t deny that singing his name has been Jason Derulo’s trademark for years. It would almost sound weird if we didn’t hear these words at the beginning of his song. The singer also has a book titled Sing Your Name Out Loud: 15 Rules for Living Your Dream, which is just as genius.
Jason Derulo admitted that he had been contemplating giving up on his iconic introduction in the past. During an interview on Good Morning America, he shared that people constantly asking him to sing their names had all become “too much” for him. Luckily, a TikTok trend persuaded him to stick with his trademark. Apparently, fans were so determined to bring the “Jason Derulo” back that the singer just couldn’t leave it behind.
Why Derulo Sings His Own Name
The singer revealed the secret on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2020. He admitted that his hits were always bigger if he sang his name at the beginning. He also jokingly said that other artists should add his name to their song intros if they want to be successful.
Jason’s not the only one doing it, either. There’s Pitbull’s “Mr. Worldwide,” Sean Paul’s “Sean de Paul,” and DJ Khaled’s shouty “DJ Khaled!” Here’s hoping more artists will say their names at the beginning of their songs so that we don’t have to Shazam them as often!
Kelly Clarkson Sings a Duet With Her Daughter River Rose
Kelly Clarkson’s deluxe version of her Chemistry album will feature a duet with a special guest – her nine-year-old daughter, River Rose. We honestly can’t wait to hear the track! Keep reading for more details about the upcoming album and where you can listen to it.
Kelly Clarkson’s Upcoming Album
Kelly Clarkson revealed on Instagram that the Chemistry (deluxe) album will be out on September 22nd. The American Idol winner’s album can now be pre-ordered on Spotify, Amazon Prime, and Apple Music. River Rose will feature in the song “You Don’t Make Me Cry”.
The first version of Chemistry was released in June and was inspired by the singer’s difficult divorce from music manager Brandon Blackstock. Their marriage lasted nearly seven years before she filed for divorce in June 2020. There was a legal battle over their assets, like her Montana residence and custody of their children, daughter River Rose and seven-year-old son, Remington.
In the end, Clarkson retained custody and agreed to pay Blackstock $115,000 per month until January 2024.
The Tracks on the Album
Since the album was inspired by her breakup, Kelly Clarkson discussed the lyrics of the tracks with Blackstock over a text exchange. She said, “I don’t even remember why or how it happened, but I was like, ‘Hey, I didn’t just diminish us down to one [thing].’ You know what I’m saying? It’s all in there, the ride. The beauty is in there, as well. Now, there’s a lot of pain, but that’s what happens for all of us.”
The singer also shared that her children are becoming fans of her music. She said she doesn’t usually play her songs around them, so they must have heard them from someone else.
Clarkson, currently performing a residency in Las Vegas, also noted that she and her kids are big Harry Styles and Aurora fans.
