“Clint Eastwood” was the first single released by the Gorillaz back in early 2001. Going double platinum upon its release and also being nominated for a BRIT Award, the song attracted many fans. However, songwriter Damon Albram managed to “disappoint” some fans as he revealed how he came up with the song.
Gorrilaz’s Co-Creator on an Apple Music Interview
Damon Albarn, also known as the frontman of the Britpop band Blur, is also the co-creator and primary musical contributor of the world-known virtual band. The musician chatted with DJ Zane Lowe for an Apple Music interview while they toured Studio 13 – the place where most of the Gorillaz’s songs were recorded.
During the tour, Albarn placed the Suzuki Omnichord (the first truly portable electronic instrument) on his desk and showed the former Radio One DJ how “Clint Eastwood” was actually created using a single pre-set on the instrument.
“It Just Came Like That?”
The exact first words from what seemed to be a disappointed question came from the DJ. The Gorillaz creator confirmed it. Albarn pushed a single button and told the interviewer that this was exactly how the legendary song came to life. It was all based on that pre-set.
It wasn’t just the world-renowned DJ that seemed to feel let down, as the interview became viral with nearly 2 million views on TikTok. Many Gorillaz fans didn’t hold back and shared their shock and disappointment as well.
It’s Not Just Gorillaz…
Despite their disappointment, many fans pointed out that “Clint Eastwood” wasn’t the only song to do so. In reality, Rihanna’s “Umbrella” was created using the hi-hat sound found in GarageBand, a free music software that comes standard with all Mac computers.
According to rapper The-Dream, who co-wrote the song with Christopher ‘Tricky’ Stewart and Kuk Harrell, the beat caught their interest while they were working on the now-iconic track.
As a result, the song only took a few hours to create and was subsequently nominated for a Grammy.
Eminem Said He Wanted to “Destroy” MGK Without “Making Him Bigger”
During the beef between Eminem and MGK, the Detroit rapper stated that he had to “destroy” MGK without making him “bigger.” The feud between the two rappers began in 2012, when MGK referred to Eminem’s daughter, Hailie, as “hot.” This did not sit well with Slim Shady, who, in 2018, criticized MGK on the song “Not Alike”, to which MGK responded with the track “Rap Devil”.
The Feud Between Eminem and MGK
Eminem then fired additional shots at MGK. Both artists released diss tracks targeted at one another, after which Eminem sat down with hip-hop aficionado Sway Calloway to shed light on the whole beef. The Detroit rapper stated that he first didn’t want to respond to MGK’s diss because it would give his arch nemesis more exposure. He stated that there were people who don’t do anything but criticize.
Eminem is okay with the fact that people can talk crazy about him, as they have the right to express themselves in their way. However, this gives Em the right to say whatever he wants about them.
The Greatest Rapper Alive?
The 8 Mile star said told Sway that he didn’t hear about MGK’s comments about his daughter much later, saying that he didn’t even know about this until literally a year and a half later. Eminem responded to allegations that he banned MGK from his radio station Shade 45. Em claimed that MGK’s comments on his daughter were not the real reason why he dissed him. He said that he went after MGK because he said he is the greatest rapper alive since his favorite rapper (Eminem) banned him from Shade 45.
In an interview in 2015, MGK was asked about his comments about Eminem’s daughter, Hailie, who was 16 while he was 22. He said that Hailie was beautiful, but with all respect due, Eminem was king. Today, it seems all parties have moved on, MGK is dating Megan Fox even though there were rumors about their break up, and Hailie is engaged to her long-term boyfriend, Evan McClintock.
