Kung Fu Panda 4 Will Have a New Song from Jack Black’s Tenacious D
During an interview, Jack Black shared that he and Kyle Gass are back together as Tenacious D to make a song for the new Kung Fu Panda 4. When asked about their projects, Black mentioned they’ve been busy with a few things. He then mentioned working on a new Kung Fu Panda movie coming out next year and being asked to create a song for the credits.
Tenacious D to Record a New Song
Jack Black’s contribution to The Super Mario Bros. Movie soundtrack played a significant role in boosting its box office performance this year. In the Mario movie, Black voiced Bowser, the villain with plans to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom by marrying Princess Peach, portrayed by Anya Taylor-Joy.
Jack Black used his voice to sing about Bowser’s unrequited love for Peach. He even released a music video featuring himself in a shiny green suit and a Koopa dragon mullet. Black shared that the idea for Bowser to sing a song came up late in the production process. They expanded on the concept, adding more lyrics and melody to turn it into a full-fledged song, and Black instantly liked the result.
The “Peaches” Song Went Viral
After recording the song, Black had reservations because it turned out to be quite emotional. He thought the studio might not use it because it added a moment of depth to the film. According to him, the song momentarily shifts the focus from a family cartoon to delve into Bowser’s profound and painful unrequited love, a theme that might be seen as more intense for the film’s overall tone.
The song, titled “Peaches,” gained viral popularity on TikTok and reached No. 56 on the Billboard Hot 100. Given its success, we can only hope that the song Tenacious D writes for Kung Fu Panda 4 is just as spectacular!
