It seems like bosses struggle to remember what it’s like to be in our position, even though it wasn’t too long ago that they were standing in our shoes. The power of their positions must’ve clouded their memory, making them forget what it feels to balance work with life outside the office. Here are some instances where bosses stepped over their professional boundaries, asking for far too much from their employees.

Not in the Contract

Contracts are drafted with the intention to legally protect an employee’s rights and time. As a contractor, who switches from one project to another, it’s important to have a comprehensive agreement in place to prevent any unforeseen issues from occurring. This underscores the need for detailed contracts to cover every angle, making sure things don’t go awry.

You’re the only one who can really set your own limits. When your boss expects you to work during hours that your contract doesn’t cover, you need to stand your ground. Remember to value your own free time and don’t be shy about defending it.

Take That Vacation

It’s safe to say that you really enjoy what you’re doing for a living. But just in case you don’t, here is a little reminder: the work you do is essentially what allows you to cover your basic needs like paying for your housing. Plus, it allows you to pursue personal interests in your free time and enjoy hard-earned vacations.

Never let your boss convince you that taking your vacation time is harming others. In reality, they should be encouraging you to take time off. This is because returning relaxed and rejuvenated helps you work better. The business is more than capable of running without you for a week or two. Don’t deny yourself, go ahead and enjoy your deserved break.

So Unprofessional

Normally, it’s pretty clear that when someone does a job for somebody else, they should get paid for both their time and the work they’ve finished. But when this hardworking contractor asked for the money he deserved for his work, his boss had some specially picked words for him.

If this boss didn’t want to shell out his employee’s wages, he ought not to have brought him on board to start with. There’s some clear lack of professionalism in this situation, and it’s not on the contractor’s part.

Taking It Personally

It’s one thing to require your workers to keep their mobile devices out sight while they’re on the clock, but it’s a totally different matter to prohibit any personal belongings within the premises of the office.

Imagine not being allowed to take your own stuff with you where you work. Your boss takes them away and locks them up, not trusting you with your own things. We’ve never seen such a lack of trust in workers and such an overstepping of boundaries in a job environment. It’s completely over the line.
