Homeless Guy Helps Old Woman With Shopping, Unaware Of Her Identity
Being homeless can happen to anyone, no matter who you are or where you come from. Life is full of surprises, and it can change in an instant, taking you from having a lot to having very little. Homelessness doesn’t pick and choose; it can touch anyone’s life, showing us that the rollercoaster of life is full of unexpected twists. Even in the briefest moment, our paths can swerve from good fortune to hard times.
When Trevor King found himself without a home on the San Antonio, Texas streets, a catastrophic event had taken away everything familiar to him. His future seemed bleak and uncertain. Little did he know, his life was about to take an unpredictable turn following an accidental meeting with a kind-hearted old lady.
Meet Trevor King
Trevor King came into this world in the coastal city of Rockport, Texas. Raised by the rhythm of the sea waves, he found himself working as a shrimp fisherman at the tender age of 16. Now, at the age of 41, his once familiar life had taken a divergent path, looking vastly different from what it used to be.
Trevor had really enjoyed life in Rockport. Watching boats gently float in the marina, hearing the unique cries and calls of seagulls, and feeling the comfort of warm summer days were things he held dear. However, an incident happened in the year 2017 that changed his life, forcing Trevor to leave his beloved Rockport for good.
Hurricane Harvey
Hurricane Harvey came crashing into Rockport on August 25, 2017, leaving the city looking nothing like it used to. Buildings had their tops torn off, power poles were broken as if they were just small twigs, and the cost of the damage caused by the flood and fires was in the millions.
For a full four days, a cruel storm tore through the town. Rains pouring like a waterfall and winds howling like a wild beast didn’t spare the historic place. When the storm at last lost its strength, the community was a sight to behold, almost unrecognizable. Trevor, who had taken refuge in Corpus Christi during this ordeal, came back to the remains of his home. The scene that greeted him was beyond anything he could have imagined.
Losing Everything
Trevor’s home was totally wrecked. The top part had been ripped away, and the only thing remaining inside were broken pieces of wood, his furniture smashed into pieces so damaged they couldn’t be recognized.
At the boat dock, Trevor’s outrigger fishing boat was gone, pulled into the ocean by the storm’s mighty power. His place to live, how he earned his money, and everything that had been a part of his life was wiped out. What made things even worse, he hadn’t insured his things. He was left with nothing. Not much time passed before Trevor found himself in a situation that was even more worrisome and grim.
Becoming Homeless
Trevor found himself without a home or a boat, basically homeless, after the storm had passed. For a few months, he lived in the disaster relief shelters set up by the state in Rockport. But as time breezed by, Trevor, like all the other residents of Rockport, was expected to find a new place to live on his own.
Trevor found himself in a dire situation with no options left. He was without a family to rely on and his small savings were insufficient for even necessities like food, much less for something like paying rent. Consequently, the harsh reality he was faced with, was the unavoidable fate of having to live on the city streets.
