Being in an airport is usually filled with stress. They are always buzzing with people and there is a constant feeling of rushing. No one really wants to spend time in airports. However, the reward that awaits on the other end, past those big doors, often makes the whole stressful experience worth it.

Soon, after Robert Bundy found himself under the watchful eye of airport security for appearing odd and not fitting in, it was impossible to imagine that a moment was soon coming that would change his life forever.

An Anxious Wait

An older gentleman named Robert Bundy was waiting apprehensively at the entrance gate of a Kentucky airport, tightly clutching an array of beautiful tulips in his trembling hands. There was a dash of nervousness in his demeanor, causing his legs to be less steady on the ground. All his life, Robert had been eagerly looking forward to experiencing a moment like what was about to unfold.

His face, marked by wrinkles, lit up with a thrilling sense of expectation. He couldn’t help but turn his head, just to make sure that the box he’d left sat securely on the chair nearby.

Sitting Impatiently

Even with his thrilled face, there was something off about how he looked. It was all about his shoes, they seemed like they belonged to a different era. This tiny detail was starting to lead the airport’s security officers to suspect something wasn’t right.

As one of the security personnel began to inch towards him, Robert couldn’t help but feel a little ill at ease. He recognized, however, that his presence was necessary, so he chose to stay put. Seating himself next to his box, his eyes stayed glued to the flight information display in anticipation of any news about the crucial flight he was awaiting.

Out of Place

Robert, feeling a tad bit anxious, constantly switched his attention between his timekeeping wristwatch and the arrivals signboard, remaining alert for a special person’s flight. His focused stare shifted to the bouquet of tulips firmly gripped in his hand. Their lively colours seemed to bring a much-needed brightness to the otherwise dreary airport waiting area, making the patient wait somehow more tolerable.

Robert and the security guard kept looking at each other in a way that made them both feel uneasy. Poor Robert already seemed uneasy and didn’t fit in well. Despite trying to relieve his uneasiness by glancing around, it only seemed to make things worse.

Disheveled Appearance

At the age of 80, it was evident that Robert had tried his best to dress up for the occasion. Sadly, his noble efforts fell short as he ended up looking more unkempt and suspicious. His tweed jacket didn’t quite sit well on his frame, neither did his trousers flatter his physique. Despite intending to look sharp and ready, he came off more as scruffy and unprepared.

Without knowing what’s inside the box, and witnessing Robert’s continuous jittery actions, something about him just didn’t seem right. Picking up on his peculiar footwear was the last straw that made the security guard question his behavior even more.
